Middle School

 

At the Core 

     Curriculum is based on diocesan, state and national standards.  Emphasis is on a strong, traditional core curriculum in religion, literature, English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Writing and technology are incorporated across all disciplines. Students who show exceptional language arts and math aptitude are eligible for honors classes. The educational experience is further enhanced with the inclusion of art, library science, music, physical education, Spanish.
 
Electives 
     Students are provided a dynamic enrichment program.  Sixth grade students begin the first semester with a quarter each of guidance and study skills.  Band and strings are offered as year long electives.  Additional middle school electives vary and may include audio/visual/digital media, creative problem solving, creative writing/poetry, digital photography, drama and sports dynamics.
 
Experiential Learning
     Eighth grade students attend CampGreenville in North Carolina. Students learn to work cooperatively and support each other in team challenges while developing leadership skills and learning how to care for the environment through science and ecology related study.
 
     In addition, seventh and eighth grade students conduct controlled experiments as part of the science curriculum, culminating with participation in the school’s annual Saint Albertus Magnus Science Fair judged by University of Tennessee science professors.
    
     Students and their families may also participate in a school-wide family nights where hands-on activities are performed to encourage excitement and curiosity for science, math, or reading.
 
Honor Roll
     Students are recognized for academic achievement by placement on the Honor Roll when meeting criteria for the Principal’s List, First Honors, and Second Honors.
