The ST. Joseph School library was renovated in 2009 and houses a collection of approximately 8,000 books, various reference materials, a developing DVD collection, and age appropriate magazines for student research and reading. A professional collection for faculty is also available. Students attend classes with the librarian and may access the library throughout the week. In addition to teaching the students how to effectively use a library, the library curriculum supports all other academic disciplines through the collaborative efforts of the teachers and librarian and engages students by combining reference and technology skills.
The library supports the Accelerated Reader program, an online curriculum assessment tool that monitors reading comprehension and encourages independent reading.
The library utilizes and supports the Tennessee Electronic Library, a collection of 40+ databases with over 400,000 electronic resources, including magazines, scholarly journals, podcasts, videos, e-books, test preparation materials, federal census records, Tennessee primary source materials, and more. TEL is a virtual library administered by the Tennessee State Library and Archives and can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
The St. Joseph School library is a member of Tenn-Share, a network of almost 600 libraries in Tennessee supporting resource-sharing efforts across the state. Tenn-Share believes that all residents of the state of Tennessee should have access to quality information through adequate resources from their libraries. Tenn-Share seeks to make available to all libraries in the state the resources necessary to meet the information needs of their patrons.
