The SJS teaching staff are models of lifelong learning and are committed to rigorous implementation of the school's mission. Forty-seven percent of teachers hold Masters degrees, one teacher is a candidate for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and the principal and curriculum coordinator hold a Doctor of Education Degree.
Professional development, an integral part of the culture of continuous improvement at SJS, provides a conduit for the establishment of a Professional Learning Community. Through a partnership with Trevecca Nazarene University, teachers have received monthly staff development during the 2009 - 2010 school year focused on research-based practices for teaching reading and writing across the curriculum, test taking strategies, and integrating technology strategies into the curriculum. This training, delivered by university professors, instructs teachers on the most current educational practices.
